Ernst Barlach. The Writer

The Magic of Home. Barlach and Ratzeburg (Preview)

For Ernst Barlach, Ratzeburg was homeland, the place of influence that shaped him from the young age of 7 to 14 and which concerned him for decades. The documentary film provides information about astonishing and hitherto largely unnoticed aspects of his life and work. Concept: Heike Stockhaus; film: Ariane Bethusy-Huc.

Man and Nature

In the Ernst Barlach Museum Ratzeburg, Ernst Barlach's works do not persist in a historically preserved state. Already at the end of the 19th century, the artist reacted to the ecological destruction caused by industrialisation and modernisation. The videographic room installation connects Barlach's artworks with our current questions on the relation between man and nature. Concept: Heike Stockhaus; film: Ariane Bethusy-Huc.

Man and World

The videographic room installation connects Barlach's artworks with our current questions about poverty and migration, war and peace, social justice and reconciliation. Concept: Heike Stockhaus; film: Ariane Bethusy-Huc.

Barlach the Writer (Preview)

At the beginning of the 1920s, Ernst Barlach was known far more as a playwright than as a sculptor. His plays were performed at the largest German theatres. Yet he did not write with a public in mind. Film: Ariane Bethusy-Huc.

Barlach GoYoung

Giving young people a voice with art! Barlach GoYoung is a qualification programme in the field of art and media for young people aged 12-16. The museum becomes a place of learning. Starting with the artist Ernst Barlach and his time, the young people combine historical facts with current issues and search for creative and artistic answers.

They make own films with their smartphones. The young people learn how to develop a film concept, how to skilfully translate statements into images, how to expertly edit and finalise the footage. You can see how Barlach GoYoung works and what stirring films are produced on our website: www.barlach-goyoung.de
