VDE Battery Testing

Shadowboard

With the help of the so-called "Shadowboard", the availability of tools for test preparation can be improved.

Chemical, mechanical and thermal battery testing

High demands are made worldwide on the safety and reliability of batteries. Therefore, the experts of the VDE Institute carry out extensive tests. We perform chemical analyses and tests with regard to compliance with the requirements of the Battery Directive 2006/66/EC and assess corrosion resistance. Mechanical tests examine the effects on batteries of shock, vibration, negative pressure, crushing, piercing, free fall and impact. A climatic chamber is used to test whether batteries can withstand various thermal conditions (climatic test, thermal shock, humidity).

20 kN vibration system

Vibration system with electrodynamic vibration exciter and climatic test chamber Execution of vibration tests (sine, broadband noise, resonance search, resonance dwell, sine on noise with e.g. 20 kN eff.), combinable with climatic stress with e.g. +10°C ... +90°C (with humidity) are possible.

Sliding table vibration system 10 kN

Vibration system with electrodynamic vibration exciter This equipment has a maximum vector force of 10kN in a frequency range of 5-3000 Hz. The performance of vibration tests (sine, broad-band noise, resonance search, resonance dwell, sine on noise, shock) are thus possible in the wide spectrum.

Pneumatic shock testing machine for shock testing

In the shock testing machine, the test persons are exposed to hard impacts. The test subjects must withstand these. This is necessary to prove that the product can withstand e.g. the fall from a certain height without assuming a dangerous condition. The impacts, the so-called shocks, can be up to 3000 m/s². Small explanation: 1 g (earth acceleration) is 9.8 m/s².

Control panel of the vibration system

From here, the vibration system can be set up. The system can be monitored remotely from a central control room while the test is in progress.

Test chamber for superposition of vibration tests

This makes it possible to superimpose vibration tests with different climatic conditions. By simultaneously generating different climatic conditions, such as vibrations in a cold and hot environment with special humidity, the test specimen can be tested for its suitability and weak points can be found.

Climatic chambers

For testing, e.g. for conformity to standards or on special customer request, simulations of temperature and humidity are required to test the product suitability for the expected environmental conditions. Here, among others, simulations are carried out according to IEC 60068-2-1, IEC 60068-2-2, in the range -70 °C to +180 °C and/or with 10 % to 98 % r.H.

Control panel of the shocker for setup operation

Electrodynamic oscillation system

With this equipment and a possible simultaneous climatic superposition, different products can be tested for their suitability under the interaction of different simultaneously occurring environmental influences. Vibration tests can be combined with climatic stress in the range of -70 °C to +180 °C (without humidity).

Land mount shock testing machine

Pneumatic testing machine for shock tests This equipment allows shock tests, so called impacts, to be performed with e.g. multiple earth gravitation on the test subjects. These tests are carried out according to IEC 60068-2-27 environmental shock tests or according to special customer requirements.
